Perlit, open-pit mining method is used to extract perlite ore. Following extraction, the ore undergoes crushing, grinding, and classification processes, after which expansion is carried out. Initially, the raw ore is subjected to primary crushing near the quarry to achieve the required particle size. Then, the expanded perlite, which is lightweight but voluminous, is economically expanded in facilities located close to market areas due to its large volume.
Key aspects in the preparation of perlite include:
- Separating perlite into nodules or obtaining cuboid-shaped grains
- Crushing to the necessary particle size without excessive thinning or damaging the shell structure
- Sorting according to the desired grain size
Perlite is generally a rock that is easily crushed and ground. However, since the particle distribution depends on crushing impacts, careful selection of crushers and grinders is required.
